COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The objective of this course is to introduce the basic tools and techniques required in modern financial management. The main aim is to introduce students to financial management and for them to understand and appreciate the importance of financial management in business. Students will also be acquainted with the scope and functions of financial management.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The basic concepts of managing financial resources and techniques of financial analysis used for practical business decisions are introduced. Use of financial ratios to evaluate the past performance of the firm, financial planning techniques, the effect of leverage on profitability and risk, the time value of money, and capital budgeting are included. Computational skills are emphasized as students compute financial ratios, compute present and future values of funds, do stock and bond valuation.
TEACHING APPROACH:
Integrated mix of lectures, group project, individual assignments and problem solving.
